One of my illustrations win an award
Yay, totally exhausted but happy, back from Mallorca Fantastica Festival (Mallorca, Spain) with the award for Best Fantasy illustration for FRAYING BONDS one of the illustrations featured in my upcoming album THE UNDERLIVING 
that i'm sharing very soon. It was really great to bring back the award, specially cos I'm far more recognized as musician than as illustrator and for a change (despite the fact me and my cello player performed a couple of songs) get an illustration award. Watching it printed huge and hanging in the street with my name on it was a big boost. I've posted a picture of the banner here :
Met several new friends and artists, like Enrique Toribio (photographer) and also writer Salvador Sainz, came back with lots of gifts (the books of Joana Pol and Cristina Puig) and wonderful leaves necklaces from a new friend Marta :) from floripondios.es. Lovely lovely items! I'm in love with them. And above all had a lovely time with my band member and cello player Biel :) who is from the island so we could rehearse a bit for upcoming faeriecon in the states.

New chokers and crafts available!
Set of chokers I've designed and handcrafted myself, I think I'm going to dare with some headpieces and little bags too very soon.
I've been crafty this days, in order to fund The Underliving, aside of the donations and online concerts I've decided to make some handcrafted chokers and wearable things :) so these are some examples of quite a few thingies coming, all made by hand

Many of my friends have received my famous green feathers, I have an obsession for them, this a ready to go set of choker and earrings. Price: 15 EUR

MUMMY LOVES YOU TOTONIKA! Now Totonika and Kira are playing together at the other side of the rainbow. Totonika has become a supernova and will shine like the brightest star forever in my heart. Please LEAVE HER A THOUGHT in her guestbook or in the special BLOG entry we´ve made in her site.
My forthcoming album THE UNDERLIVING will be dedicated to Totonika and Kira. You both have been the shiniest lights I've ever seen, and you both shone just too short but brightest than any other, just like super novas, the most amazing healers, my biggest joy. I am and will be forever grateful. You only have to think of Mum and I know you'll take care of each other and will visit me in my dreams. My memory will always find the way back to you, and a peace of my heart is now with you both. I've been so lucky to share part of my life with you. Loving you forever!

Well starting with some random things, my first CD Ancient Shadows now is available in Japan through X-REC. If you're in this country you'll find it available here.
Totonika, my hamster remains very sick, she´s fighting but she´s gone on a down and we´re suffering so much for her. Keep updated or show her love at her official site Totonika.com. I love you TOTONIKA you are so brave, you make the decision to live or stay, but as long as you're with me you'll be the most loved hammie on earth. Thank you deep from my heart to all the ones that have left such pretty words in her guestbook and site and specially to Maria aka Yishana for the healing letter and sketch:
I'm re-living all the pain I underwent when my beloved dog Kira got sick and died years ago. I will never forget her and she has a special lullaby called "Good Night Kira" in the album. You can read the lyric/poem at KIRA´S SECTION and here is a drawing I've made to illustrate that song in my forthcoming album The Underliving.
To end this post, thanks very much to all the friends that have already donated for the release of the Underliving, we only have three weeks from now to send it to the factory if we want it to be in time for Faeriecon (USA), It will be out in 2011 for sure but I'd be happier if we can bring it with us to premier it there and thus I thank your support. Faeriecon is 3-4 Nov so that leaves us few weeks of margin.
The cd is READY, It's recorded, the artwork done, all we need is to gather the funds. It has 16 tracks and features some collaborations as Kelly Miller Lopez (harp) and Louisa John Krol (additional vocals) among others. This is a glimpse of the artwork included within:

I love you my little bug!
Totonika is my hamster. She is my first pet since Kira died. For a long time of trauma after Kira´s departure, a wound still not healing, so I refused to have pets for a while. I suffered horribly Kira´s loss and I still do. Then suddenly this little critter TOTONIKA NOVA came to my life. A hamster. I had a rat and a hamster before, in fact my last hamster Yumi and Kira were best friends for a long time. And Toto won our hearts. We created her blog too to showcase her cuteness. And the fact is that as a previous owner of rodents Totonika was special. First she learnt to live with the cage open and free, slowly moved to my wardrobe, or inside the sofa, destroyed all my clothes :) and made me smile thousands of times. She is an expert climber and pests us with her loving personality, loves to be massaged and caressed, likes to go outdoors with a leash and talks to us with dog-like barks coming to her name when called. She is AMAZING and still alive at this very moment she´s struggling in the vet clinic. Last night she had a stroke and then had difficulty to move and breath, recovered a bit and got worse today, after X-rays and tests a big mass was found in her belly and her lungs are full of fluid, just at the vet she had another stroke and stopped breathing to be reanimated by the vet again, she´s under oxygen in the hospital now and I'm here thinking of her and wanting to be by her side. She´s a fighter, I know she´ll try, she loves living. But just as happened with Kira, if another wound and missing is coming to my life, Totonika IT IS WORTH every second and every SMILE you've provided to me. Mummy and daddy love you tons! and YOU ARE without any doubt the CUTEST HAMSTER EVER.

Thank you very much to all the ones that attended our last ustream broadcast last saturday :) IT WAS SO FUN!! :) meant to last an hour we were together from almost two :). Really encouraged and very happy. We performed several songs from The Underliving (Off the lane, good night Kira, Feel the thrill, Morning light, Through the long way, Norhtern Lights) Sadly I couldn't access much to the chat myself and it was not saved so I feel I missed many of your messages, but my deep thanks to you all. Remember we´re crowdfunding for the release of THE UNDERLIVING, we would love to send it to the factory mid September and thus we need your help not to delay it much longer. Working in The Underliving artworks non stop... Friday USTREAM CONCERT
Well, reaching the end of it :), if things going well and working this month at this pace, early September all artworks and final mix of The Underliving should be ready to go to the factory. I decided to make the neck a bit shorter and while painting the eyes a bit less cartoonish, half of the drawings in the cd are more cartoon and the other half more "realistic" style, but I decide while painting to mingle a bit.
So here's a snippet about how the thing is looking at the moment, just a crop of a much bigger picture I should be sharing in a few days.

More on Underliving artworks, new cameo on sale... upcoming ustream concert
Hi all,
Thinking of making a ustream little online concert NEXT friday, will post details soon... ! :)
First a quick note to let you know I added a new original painting cameo on sale, a cute kitten lady... I made the choker myself, and really looks cute on the neck. You can check it/buy it at the store. :). It's really cute and the drawing inside is NOT a painting but the actual ink illustration.
Talking about cats... my friend and aussie fellow singer and composer Louisa John Krol sent me two lovely kittens hand crafted by a friend, they became cozy with a doll crafter Patricia Hedegaard had already gifted me and they're friends now in my "fairy home studio"
Well, It's been a month of painting an painting and more painting... but really reconciled with my facet as illustrator, after so many years of have it put aside in order to push my music career. Been painting the artworks of The Underliving, and I'm very much pleased to announce I'm almost finished :), so if we can fund it, The Underliving might be ready early Fall and will be able to come with us to 4 Nov Faeriecon (USA) and 12 Nov Hispacon (Spain) to premier it.

So what's new...
well quite a few thingies... first. I'll be making several ustream broadcasts from my studio playing for you my listeners. So bookmark this link (you can join with facebook or twitter) and we´ll have a give away for the visitors of the online concerts. They will be simple accoustic solo performances but longing to share it with you.
Also The Underliving music almost closed but adding a few guest and features as aussie fellow fairy singer Louisa John Krol in the track "One last Hope". We already collaborated together in latest Woodland´s album, and I'm also contributing in her forthcoming song "Fountains". I feel like Louisa, Kelly and me are mingling our projects and it is such a sister feeling. So I'm honored to have them both as guest in my album.
I'm almost done with the artworks of "The Underliving". I still need to paint the CD label and the external cover and digipack structure, but most of the pages are drafter or on its way to be finished. Main character is this little teenager girl in a nightgown that we obviously find very reminiscent of "YIDNETH" herself (third album is "YIDNETH" and will rescue the comic" that might be rebuilt.. and why...? Because in the comic there's a part set in early 80´s where it shows a girl (that could or could not be "Yidneth") that during all her life see "ghosts" from the TRANSIT and other kind of CREATURES (from THE UNDERLIVING) so guess what...? so part of the Underliving has become sort of a "prequel" (not all of it, but quite a few hints) taking place before the final part of the comic ends. And yes, it's all about ghosts, fairies and underlivings... and if you go now to "Ancient Shadows" cd you'll find in the digipack precisely that, a ghost, a fairy and an underliving.... remember?
So sharing now an illustration "in my mind's eye" from he very concept sketch to the almost final (need to fix the hand a bit) result. I recently was asked if I use photography. I do believe that photomanipulation is also a way of creating art but though I do it for some promotional pictures of myself, I don't do it for the tradtional illustrations. I often like the unclean built up of the rough sketch.
So basic idea, eye within an eye... the song is "in my mind´s eye" featured in my upcoming album "The Underliving".
So let´s start.
basic design of girl hair and vintage nightgown, young around 14 or 15. I like this style better than realistic, but for this one we´ll turn it a bit more "real looking"
Basic idea and sketch... rough pencil on a piece of paper... they all start this way. Good excuse to watch tvs or movies and sketch in pieces of paper while doing it so you don't feel guilty of wasting time.
Then I develop several ideas, eye within eye, the girl, hand... hmmm And I make rapid wash of coloring with watercolor. After this I scan. Digital eraser to correct
so time do make it "shine" a bit, though finally I've decided I'll opt for the full girl sketch in the left that I'll paint in a different layer to then make a composite of the reflection, rough, but from far away the impression of the color and highlight is already there.
That was a bit too dark, though I'll keep the vignette for the final result, I start to add detail to the iris, I place the girl, the hand needs to be corrected and pop out a bit more.
Then I spend a "few hours" adding details to the iris (this takes quite a long time) and it's not perfect but it is a painting, not a photography (I love to matte paint quickly), and polish the girl, , lace, highlighted fingertips, and overall result comes as next (that I'll still might polish a bit more for the CD) but well here it is! Sort of proud, and with "red blurred eyes myself" after another painting sleepless night...
